Traditional Best Barbeque Chicken Barbeque, or TBBC Barbeque, is a great Korean food addition to the hood. I didn’t know what to expect at first. The entrance is decorated with lavish flowers and ribbons of sorts. Maybe well wishers, as this new restaurant has only been open for a week.
After endless searching on the internet (actually about 10 min on Google), I couldn’t find any info on this restaurant. There has been a slight surge of Korean chicken restaurants lately. Places like Kyochon and Bon Chon and now TBBC, have sprung up in the neighborhood.

The dining room at TBBC, now open in the good ol’ USA
When I hear the words barbeque and Korean, I expect a smoke filled room with grills at the center of every table. But TBBC isn’t that kind of BBQ. Their chicken is grilled over charcoal, and then doused in different “BBQ” sauces. The English translation of the dishes is sometimes comical.

Hansik Gui
The Yangsik Gui, is “Used sweet tomato sauce to create Country Western Taste” Or the Dak Nal Gae, “Made only from the freshest parts of chicken wings that hold lots of collagen.” I decide that used sauce or collagen is a little adventurous for my first TBBC experience. I go with their specialty, The Hansik Gui ($17). It’s a whole chicken, cut up in a very odd way of bits and pieces but all on the bone still. It’s swimming in a spicy sweet mixture of herbs and hot pepper sauce. They actually warned us about the spice, then came back a couple of times to inquire on it’s level of spiciness. Do I look that Caucasian that I can’t handle a little kick?

Gochoojang Dakgalbi Dupbab, say it fast 5 times
I also got the Gochoojang Dakgalbi Dupbab ($7), which was your standard fair of veggies and chicken rib meat chicken with a kim-chi style spiced red sauce with a side of rice. Their fries are Belgian style, double flash fried for an extra crispy outer skin.
This is a great addition to the neighborhood, a good option if you wish to have something other than the traditional Korean BBQ. The only thing they are missing is a liquor license. I could have used a Hite or OB lager to wash it all down.
